West Collects Prize 2012

Vote West Collects 2012
The West Collection is conducting an exciting collection competition this year. West Collects 2012 will award a substantial cash prize to the winner of an iPhone/iPad based popularity contest.

To vote, you will need to download the West Collects App from this link.

Please download the app, search for me by name, and click "I Like" next to each of my images. View this image for instructions.

If you remember to, please vote for me as many times as possible in the next 150 days. (Users are allowed to vote once per day).

Your vote(s) means a lot to me. Even if I don't win the competition, getting into the Top 50 will ensure that my work is seen by the West Collection curators, possibly providing other collection opportunities.

Repent in Haste, 5 x 7, US Currency on vintage book cover, 2011

Repent Pepper Spray Cop; REPENT!

This is a collage (US Currency on a vintage book cover) that I created to donate to:
Spread the Word" • An Art Auction Benefiting 826LA. I felt that is was about time that Pepper Spray Cop should brutalize protestors in an original artwork.

Spread the Word is a one-night auction at Mark Moore Gallery set up to benefit 826LA, a non-profit writing and tutoring center with locations around Los Angeles, CA.

Please attend, it looks like its shaping up to be an incredible evening. You can buy tickets here.

From the Facebook Event Page:
A one-night exhibition held on December 17th, 2011 at Mark Moore Gallery, "Spread the Word" will showcase works by over 80 contemporary artists starting below $100 - with special emphasis on local talent - to raise funds for 826LA!

Featuring a live set by 88.9FM KCRW's Jason Bentley, craft beer tasting provided by Brouwerji West, local food truck eats by Holy Aioli and unique artworks for sale from artists such as Gary Baseman, Jessicka Addams, Dave Eggers, GLEE's Dianna Agron, Ryan Travis Christian, Okay Mountain and more!

A $25 ticket gets you an evening of art, music and culinary goodness, plus all proceeds from ticket and art sales benefit 826LA's incredible volunteer-based programming.

Founded by celebrated novelist, Dave Eggers, 826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 years old with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. We Are The Many

A friend just shared this fantastic folk-rebellion song on facebook. I am shocked it has so few views. This is a really nicely put together piece that encapsulates a number of my personal frustrations with the current state of the Union.

Please enjoy and share!

*Update >> Makana played this at the APEC dinner in Honolulu this week! Read the full story here.

About the Work
"The deflating white whale symbolizes a cyclical end to obsession. Much like a beached whale, which dies when it's
non-buoyant mass collapses under its own weight, human obsession frequently spirals out of control until its bearer can no longer support its mass. ...it inflates until full and then slowly deflates, collapsing inward on itself, and without witness, the cycle begins anew."

Similar to its original installation in the desert of Marfa, TX, The Dying Gaul installed in landlocked Colorado will be left out to dry. The sculpture will fill the east wing of the Philip J. Steele Gallery along with photographs of the piece in situ.

Person's work is exhibited courtesy of Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles.
